DAMAGEPLAN's Debut Cracks BILLBOARD Top 40

February 18, 2004

DAMAGEPLAN's much-hyped debut CD, "New Found Power", sold 44,676 copies in the U.S. during its first week of release to debut at position No. 38 on next week's The Billboard 200 chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The group, which includes ex-PANTERA members Dimebag Darrell (guitar) and Vinnie Paul (drums),fared substantially better than their former bandmate Philip Anselmo, whose first two offerings with his current project SUPERJOINT RITUAL, 2002's "Use Once And Destroy" and 2003's "A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred", registered first-week tallies of 13,690 (No. 87) and 20,269 (No. 55),respectively. DAMAGEPLAN's numbers are especially impressive when you consider the fact that PANTERA's "greatest hits" collection, "The Best of Pantera: Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits!", shifted a total of 28,747 units (No. 38) in its first week of release last September (PANTERA's last official studio album, 2000's "Reinventing The Steel", opened with a tally of more than 161,000 to debut at No. 4).

In other chart news, Dave Grohl's metal side-project PROBOT sold 27,380 copies in its first week of release, landing at position No. 68 on next week's The Billboard 200 chart.
